If winter is your favorite season…. or Frozen is your favorite movie…. this ice castle anniversary session is for you! Before I say anything else, I have to say thank you to this incredible couple. Katie and Matt, THANK YOU for being so brave and participating in this session with us!

Y’all, it was COLD. I mean, that goes without saying being surrounded by ice, but by the end of our hour together, even my fingers and toes were numb despite all the winter clothes I was wearing. Nevertheless, these two were just incredible.

Back to the session. A few weeks ago, I was chatting with my friend, Sam, about wanting to do an icy winter session. After a little digging, we found this gem of a location just a few hours from Grand Rapids, and fell in love. We knew it would be a magical backdrop for a unique, romantic session.

Several times throughout the shoot, the sweetest little girls came up to Katie and told her she looked like a princess. I have to say, I agree.

Winter is far from my favorite season. I don’t ski, snowboard, or ice skate so living in the midwest and dealing with snow and ice is usually nothing but an inconvenience. However, not even I can argue that winter isn’t beautiful in its own right. As a photographer with a brighter style, I was initially drawn to the idea of a shoot like this because of the clean background that allows the subject to pop. Not to mention, the icy blues and greens are just stunning. It was a blast creating in an environment completely different, albeit very cold! Looking at the final product, it was totally worth it!
