I think I start every winter blog post the same way, and this will be no exception – I hate winter. Ha! Really, I just hate being cold or having to drive in snow. So I don’t go out of my way to book portrait sessions in the winter, but I also have to admit, when they do come around, I end up LOVING them. And, admittedly, Megan & Alex’s snowy maternity session was just dreamy! In fact, all the snow was actually an answered prayer.
Megan reached out a few weeks ago asking when we should get her maternity session on the books, and she happened to be right at the “sweet spot” in her pregnancy. I typically recommend maternity photos around 28-30 weeks. Far enough along to have a super cute bump, but not too late that you risk missing out because baby came early, or getting to the point of swollen ankles and maximum discomfort. However, at that point, there was absolutely no snow to be had here in West Michigan. Everything looked quite brown and dead. We all know, though, that Michigan weather is rather unpredictable. And, as luck would have it, a beautiful fresh blanket of snow arrived just in time for this session!
It was quite cold, but you’d never know it from looking at these photos. All I see is a mom and a dad who are so excited to meet their baby! This session took me right back to how much fun I had with Megan and Alex at their engagement session and wedding. They are so fun and playful with each other. And I always got the biggest, best smiles from Megan when I told her to look at Alex.
Megan and Alex – it was SO good to see you both. It is not lost on me what an honor it is to be asked to continue capturing important moments for a couple after their wedding day. I absolutely cannot wait to meet Baby G!
