When your love story begins on an island in the middle of the Great Lakes, you just know your engagement session is going to have some personality. I’m so excited to share this fun downtown Grand Rapids engagement session with you! Maddi and Trenton first met years ago while working summer jobs on Mackinac Island. It’s the kind of place that already feels a little bit magical. Tourists ride bikes instead of cars, sunsets stretch out over the water, and, apparently, it’s the perfect place for two people to meet and start a story that leads all the way here.

So, of course, it was on that same island that Trenton proposed a few years later. Full circle, lakeside, and perfectly them.

When it came time for their engagement session, they wanted something that felt just as true to their story. We spent the evening in the city they now call home, visiting a few of their favorite downtown spots, including The Pyramid Scheme for pinball and wandering through the aisles of Vertigo Records. By the time the city lights started to come on, they were laughing, relaxed, and completely themselves.

Next June, these two will be saying “I do” at Bay Pointe Inn, a lakeside setting that couldn’t be more fitting. Trenton now works on large cargo ships on the Great Lakes, so water has been a thread running through their entire relationship, from Mackinac Island beginnings to their wedding day to come.
