Engagement Session Locations in Grand Rapids

5/28/20

One of the first questions brides ask me after booking is what Grand Rapids engagement session locations I recommend. Michigan is truly a beautiful place so your options are seemingly endless! The first thing you should determine is the “vibe” you want for your session. Are you outdoorsy, nature-type people? If so, I’d recommend a park or the beach. Or are you more trendy, urban people where a downtown setting would be appropriate?

Here’s a list of some of my go-to engagement session locations to inspire you!

Downtown Grand Rapids

Interesting architecture, cool alleyways, sculptures, and bridges are just a few of the unique features of downtown. This is a great choice for a classy, upscale e-session with a lot of variety!

Grand Ravines Park

Grand Ravines ParkĀ is located in Ottawa County, south of Grand Valley State University’s main campus. Fields, trails, and water are a few features to highlight here. Needless to say, it’s perfect for couples looking for a relaxed, natural environment.

Aquinas College

Located just outside of downtown Grand Rapids, Aquinas College is a beautiful place for a portrait session. I just love the charm of it’s older, ivy-covered buildings! I would say this location is a good compromise between nature and urban. You still get lots of trees, but also have the buildings.

A Location Special to YOU

Looking for something more unique? Choose somewhere special to you and your relationship! Or if you have a beautiful property, why not have the session right at home? I’ve photographed couples at their favorite lake house, and even on their farms.

Some Other Ideas

Sometimes location options depend of the time of the year. Any of the beaches or sand dunes along Lake Michigan could be a great summer location. In the fall, it might be fun to take photos at an apple orchard. And in the winter, tree farms are a cute backdrop for photos. Whatever you decide, I can’t wait to hang out and get to know you better at your engagement session!
