Every once in a while, I meet a couple whose story just fits. The kind of connection that feels easy, joyful, and deeply rooted in who they are. That’s exactly how I’d describe Maddy and Jack.
They met through mutual friends, but it didn’t take long to see they were meant to be more than that. These two love exploring new vineyards together, so it couldn’t have been more fitting that Jack proposed at one! From the very beginning, vineyards have been the backdrop of so many of their favorite memories. And will be again next year when they say “I do” at North Lake in Berrien Springs, which (of course!) also has a vineyard on the property. I love when a theme so naturally weaves through a couple’s story like that.
For their vineyard engagement session, we met at 12 Corners Vineyard in Benton Harbor on one of those October days that felt like summer was making a comeback. It was warm—unseasonably warm—and the sun was bright and strong. They had planned for cozy fall weather and planned outfits with sweaters. Instead, we laughed our way through the heat, finding bits of shade between the vines and making the most of every golden patch of light.
Even with the unexpected weather, these two never missed a beat. Their joy is effortless, their laughter constant, and their connection unshaken by the temperature. And just when I thought the evening couldn’t get sweeter, their dog Archie joined us for the final few portraits. He definitely stole the show for a few moments!
I can’t wait to celebrate with Maddy and Jack next year at North Lake, and see this vineyard theme come full circle.
