A Nautical-Inspired Wedding at Bay Pointe Inn | Maddi & Trenton

Some weddings are beautiful because of the venue or the details. Others are unforgettable because of the people at the center of them. Maddi and Trenton’s nautical-inspired wedding at Bay Pointe Inn was both.

As both Maddi’s cousin and her photographer, I experienced this wedding from a uniquely personal perspective, and every moment meant that much more to me. Watching someone you’ve known and loved for years marry the love of their life is already an incredible honor. However, getting to preserve those memories behind the camera made it even more special.

Their story began seven years ago on Mackinac Island, where they first met while working for the ferry service. Trenton operated the ferries while Maddi greeted passengers as a ticket taker, never knowing that those everyday moments would become the beginning of a lifelong love story. It wasn’t love at first sight, but once Maddi saw Trenton’s character and kind heart, she fell fast. And they haven’t been apart since – not of their own doing, anyway.

Today, Trenton’s career has taken him onto the Great Lakes. He works aboard large ships that often keep him away from home for months at a time. But spend just one day with these two and it’s impossible not to see that their love is far stronger than the distance. It’s rooted in trust, commitment, and an unwavering devotion to one another.

Their shared connection to the water inspired every part of their wedding at Bay Pointe Inn on Gun Lake. Soft shades of blue carried through the entire celebration—from the elegant details and florals to the attire of every guest, who joined in the vision by dressing in blue as well. The lakeside setting felt like the perfect backdrop for a story that has always been connected to life on the water.

As stunning as every thoughtful detail was, what I’ll remember most are the moments they couldn’t plan. Their vows were deeply personal, spoken with such sincerity that there were few dry eyes in attendance. The toasts that followed reflected not only how deeply they love each other, but how deeply the people around them love them as well. More than once, I found myself wiping away happy tears from behind the camera.

Maddi and Trenton have the kind of relationship that quietly inspires everyone who witnesses it. It isn’t flashy or performative—it’s steady, intentional, and full of genuine affection. Their wedding was a celebration not just of a beautiful day, but of a beautiful foundation that they have built over years of choosing one another through every season, even across miles of open water.

It was an incredible privilege to capture these memories, not only as their photographer, but as family. And Trenton’s mama made Maddi the most beautiful clutch out of her wedding dress, and took some of the beads off her wedding dress and made custom cuff links for Trenton. So special!
