The Year 2020: A Look Back

1/02/21

Happy 2021, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. It’s hard to believe that such a difficult and strange year has come and gone. Despite many challenges, this year still blessed me with opportunities to share in some special wedding days, and to capture some beautiful memories. I thought it would be fun to take a look back on some of the good moments of last year. So here it is – 2020: A Look Back!

At the beginning of the year, we found out Shawn’s brother and sister-in-law were expecting baby number two! I snapped a couple announcement pics.

Although news of the Coronavirus was beginning to take hold in the United States, Shawn and I kept our plans in early March to travel to Savannah, GA to visit friends. They had recently gotten engaged, so of course we had to take some engagement photos while I was there. I’ve never gotten to shoot in the south and it was a dream!

See more of their session here.

My first wedding of the year was in early June. It was extra special because this was not just any wedding, but the wedding of my baby brother! We had all been planning and eagerly awaiting this day for SO long. While it wasn’t exactly what Brett and Emma had originally envisioned, their more intimate ceremony was absolutely lovely.

Later in June, my friend Sam from Samantha Joy Photography put together a gorgeous styled shoot that we captured together. It was so much fun to reconnect with past Portraits by Mandy couple, Mara & Jordan.

With the weather warmer, and stay at home orders relaxing, we got a few engagement sessions in. First up was Shae & David.

See their full session preview here.

Alana and Chris traveled to MI all the way from Florida for their engagement session.

In July, my little sister got engaged…and announced they wanted to have their wedding in September. Yes, in ten short weeks! I think the family was happy to have such a joyous distraction. We quickly planned a cute shower… and squeezed in an engagement session.

September was my busiest month of the year. First up was Shae and David’s intimate, but completely gorgeous, wedding at Venue3Two.

So much more to see here!

Next up was Marissa and Paul’s backyard wedding. It’s not easy being maid-of-honor and primary photographer, let me tell you. I couldn’t have captured this day without help from Jenna Rose Photography!

I also got to catch up with another past Portraits by Mandy couple – Bill and Elise – for some family photos. They have two of the most adorable little girls!

Finally wrapping up the month was Alana & Chris’s wedding on Higgins Lake!

September wasn’t the end of the wedding fun. In October, I was hired to photograph a lakeside elopement!

Also, Brett and Emma finally got to have their wedding reception with more of their family and friends. And, of course, we took lots more portraits!

Lastly, I finished out the year with some mini sessions.

All in all, 2020 may not have been the year any of us had initially planned on, but taking a look back, I certainly have many fond memories!
